Memory, relationships and promises
People in simmail remember you. They keep notes on each correspondent, feel a certain way about them, and keep track of what each side said they would do.
Memory
Section titled “Memory”Each persona has a memory: short dated notes, kept separately for each case and once more for everything outside a case. After each email they write, they add what they now remember about the exchange. Memory is capped at about 6,000 characters per case; the oldest notes fade first.
You can add to a person’s memory yourself, for example to tell them what happened in another system:
curl -s -X POST https://c1.simmail.dev/api/personas/p_3fa2b1c9d0/memory \ -H "Authorization: Bearer smk_your_key" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"text": "Had a viewing on Saturday and liked the kitchen.", "source": "crm"}'The note is stored as (crm) Had a viewing…. See the Personas API to read and clear memory, or to write by your own id for the person.
Relationships
Section titled “Relationships”Each persona also keeps a relation with every address they have exchanged mail with:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
notes | Their own running notes on you, rewritten each time they write: who you are, what was agreed, what hangs open. |
stance | How they feel about you: warm, neutral, wary, annoyed or done. |
first, last_in, last_out | When you first met, your latest email to them, and their latest to you. |
in, out | How many emails each way. |
promises | What each side said they would do (below). |
Stance changes how likely they are to answer:
| Stance | Effect on replying |
|---|---|
warm | Answers at least 90% of the time. |
neutral | No change. |
wary | A little less likely. |
annoyed | Much less likely. |
done | Almost never (8%). They also stop chasing you and stop delivering what they promised. |
When they answer, people also look back through their mailbox: older emails with you outside this thread, and anything you sent since they last answered. They answer a pile of mail together, the way people do.
Read relations with GET /api/personas/{id}/relations. DELETE /api/personas/{id}/relations?address=… makes them forget one correspondent.
Promises and nudges
Section titled “Promises and nudges”When a person writes “I’ll send the signed form by Friday”, simmail records a promise with a rough deadline:
- Their promises. Whether they keep it depends on
behaviors.keep_promises, or else their temperament. If they will keep it, a follow-through email is scheduled around the deadline, some early and many a little late. If not, the promise quietly slips. - Your promises. When you write “I’ll get back to you tomorrow”, they note it. If you have not written by the deadline plus some grace (between about 6 and 54 hours), they send you a nudge. If you write in the meantime, no nudge goes.
How reliably each temperament keeps promises by default:
| Temperament | Keeps promises |
|---|---|
responsive | 92% |
procedural | 85% |
skeptical | 75% |
busy | 60% |
difficult | 55% |
flaky | 35% |
ghost | 20% |
A person holds at most three open promises of their own toward one correspondent at a time.
Promises come from the AI reading the conversation, so template replies never make them. Promises and nudges need the lifelike behaviour feature of your plan.
Every promise appears in Activity and goes to webhooks as persona.promised (theirs, with will_keep) or persona.waiting (yours). Insights counts promises made, slipping, awaited and nudges sent.
